David Nathaniel Riley, 51, Noblesville, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at his home in Noblesville. He was born on October 10, 1971, to David L. and Carole (Griffiths) Riley in Indianapolis.
David graduated from Lawrence North High School, Baldwin Wallace College, and Harry Wendelstadt Umpire School. He worked nine years as a minor league umpire, rising to serve as a crew chief in the Triple A International League. While at Baldwin Wallace, David was a member of Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity and was president of Inter-Fraternity Council.
In addition to umpiring, David was a freshman baseball coach at Noblesville High School and then assistant freshman basketball coach at Lawrence North High School. For several years, he was a substitute teacher with Noblesville Schools. David was the assignman for IUA Central Indiana Umpires.
David was a huge fan of all sports, especially Colts football, IU basketball, Cubs baseball, and all high school sports. He enjoyed country music, traveling, cooking, Diet Pepsi, and chocolate chip cookies. Above all, David loved his family and most especially spending time with his kids and their sporting events, school activities, and performances.
David was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nathaniel & Susan (Horney) Griffiths of Noblesville, and Charles Arthur & Bertha (Garrison) Riley of Beech Grove; and his uncle and aunt, Ronald W. & Joy Riley of Lakewood, Wash.
In addition to his parents, David is survived by his son, Brooks David Riley of Fishers; daughter, Sloane Elizabeth Riley of Fishers; the mother of his children and loving best friend, Hailey Riley of Fishers; and his cousins, Patrick Riley of Lakewood, Wash., and Robert (Michelle) Riley of Allentown, Pa.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St., Noblesville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.
