Daniel Johnson

July 29, 1952 – December 5, 2020

Daniel Johnson, 68, passed away at his home in Lebanon surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 5, 2020. Born July 29, 1952 in Butler County, Ky., he was the son of the late Walker Alan and Irene (Seabolt) Johnson.

He attended Howe High School in Indianapolis and was a member of the Mechanicsburg Christian Church.

Daniel was a workaholic, and there were never enough hours in the day or days in the week to get in everything he wanted to do. For about a decade, Daniel worked as a mover for United Van Lines, packing up and transporting people’s furniture and belongings all over the country. Depending on where his load was heading and how long it would keep on the road, he sometimes found himself with a few extra passengers during the summer – his two little girls. Riding shotgun in a big rig with their dad was a special treat. Watching the countryside roll by and hitting the truck stops was quite the adventure, but time was money and there were deadlines to make, so not being able to pull into every 76 truck stop was sometimes a point of contention between driver and passenger(s).

When it was time to give up the open road, Daniel entered another trade – drywall hanging and finishing. He worked for White Drywall Company for over 25 years. During that time, “Dr. Drywall” developed a reputation for doing things the right way and paying attention to detail. Just like his time on the road, this too would become a family adventure of sorts, only this time with his nephew, Don Massey. Daniel always thought of Don as “the son he never had.” He took Don under his wing, showed him the tricks of the trade, and was about as proud as anyone could be at the craftsman his nephew became.

Family was truly important to Daniel. He loved every moment he got to spend with his kids and with his grandchildren. He especially loved when family time coincided with going out to eat. During the past several months, going to a restaurant with his family was something he missed very much.

Daniel is survived by his loving wife, Jenny (Dillon) Johnson. She and Daniel were married on February 14, 1994. Also surviving are his daughters, Michelle Diane Smith (Robbie Kinkead), Sheridan, and Tonya Danielle Sutton (Steven Billingsley), Sheridan; grandsons, Christopher Mourey, Holden Henderson, Desperado “Desi” Johnson and Wesley Sutton; brother, Dewey Johnson (Elizabeth), Franklin; sister, Ellen Massey, Sheridan, and many nieces and nephews. Daniel is also survived by his canine BFF, Tia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Douglas Johnson; and by his sister, Helen Childress.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan, followed by private family services. Pastor Andrew Ramey will be officiating.

Strict COVID precautions will be observed, including the wearing of masks.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to the Boone County Cancer Society, or to the Mechanicsburg Christian Church.
