Welcome conductor Joel Smirnoff to the Palladium as he leads the Carmel Symphony Orchestra (CSO) on Friday, Aug. 9 for the opening night of the Carmel Jazz Festival in a celebration concert honoring Duke Ellington’s 125th birthday and the 100th anniversary of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”
At 8 p.m. that evening, Vocalist Antonia Bennett, daughter of Tony Bennett, returns to Carmel, dazzling Palladium audiences with songbook favorites. Avery Fisher Award Recipient and American Pianist Association Laureate Mackenzie Melemed makes his debut with the CSO.
Special Guest B. Thompson will open the evening at 6:30 p.m. Currently on tour with the National Recording Artist Babyface, B. Thompson has been recognized by celebrities and media such as Chris Brown, Cardi B., Chloe & Halle and Mariah Carey. He has performed with legendary musicians and singers such as Najee, Kirk Whalum, Kenny Lattimore, Faith Evans, Toni Braxton, and H.E.R.
