Cross country: Six Hamilton County teams racing to regional

Last Saturday morning, Noblesville hosted the boys and girls cross country sectional at Chinquapin Ridge Cross Country Course at White River Elementary. It was quite the day for the Hamilton County runners. Fishers junior Sam Quagliaroli (15:13.7) won the boys race. The Tigers placed four in the top six to help claim the sectional championship. Noblesville finished second with four runners in the top 10, followed by HSE, Guerin Catholic and Westfield all rounding out the top five and qualifying for the Shelbyville Regional at 10:30 a.m. this Saturday.

The top 15 individuals from non-advancing teams also move on to regional. Hamilton Heights’ Isaiah Heuer will advance to the regional as an individual.

The girls race would also be heavily peppered with a Hamilton County presence. Junior Ava Jarrell (18:12.2) from Pendleton Heights was the top individual. Noblesville placed four in the top nine to help them repeat as sectional champions. HSE, Westfield and Guerin Catholic all qualified to advance to next week’s Shelbyville Regional on October 21 at 11:15 a.m.

The top 15 individuals from non-advancing teams also move on to regional. That includes all seven of Fishers’ runners, as well as the top six runners from Hamilton Heights.

Carmel swept the boys and girls races at the North Central sectional last Saturday.

The Greyhounds boys team won with 24 points, leading Zionsville (43), North Central (93), Bishop Chatard (97) and Heritage Christian (157) out to the Brownsburg regional on Saturday. Two Carmel seniors led the way, with Tony Provenzano winning in 15:22.3 and Kyle Grove second in 15:35.2.

University finished in sixth place as a team with 196 points, but had its top five runners move on to the regional as individuals.

The Carmel girls team finished second at the sectional behind North Central.

The Panthers scored 26 points, with the Greyhounds next in line by scoring 50 points. Both teams advance to the regional, along with Brownsburg (88), Bishop Chatard (88) and Park Tudor (163).

University finished eighth as a team with 243 points, but advanced its top three runners to the regional as individuals.
