Cross country sectionals: NHS girls, Carmel boys win at Chinquapin Ridge, HSE sweeps at Pendleton Heights

Cross country sectionals took place on Saturday, and Hamilton County’s teams were their usual dominant selves.
Noblesville hosted the sectional at Chinquapin Ridge Cross Country Course at White River Elementary School. The Millers girls team won the team championship, holding off runner-up Westfield by four points, 39-43. Carmel finished in third place, but had the individual champion, as Jamie Klavon ran away with first place, clocking in with a time of 18 minutes, 20.8 seconds.
Noblesville had four runners land in the top 10, including three in the top seven. Brinkley Cooper led the way by taking fourth and Summer Rempe was right behind her in fifth. Paige Hazelrigg took seventh and Nadia Perez placed 10th.
The Shamrocks had three runners finish in the top 10. Elizabeth Smith placed Westfield by taking third, followed by Hannah Pensyl in eighth and Sydney Klinglesmith in ninth.
In addition to Klavon, Olivia Mundt placed sixth for the Greyhounds, who scored 60 points.
Western Boone finished in fourth and Guerin Catholic placed fifth; the top five teams advance to next Saturday’s regional, also taking place at Noblesville. In addition, the top 10 runners not on advancing teams qualify for the regional as well.
Hamilton Heights had three runners advance as individuals: Juliana Springman, Mary Ella Bichey and Ella Ewing. University qualified two for the regional, Kelly Trowbridge and Leanne Alsatie.
In the boys race, Carmel won the sectional title, scoring 36 points, while Noblesville was the runner-up with 45 points. The Greyhounds had four of the top seven places, which helped it hold off a Millers team that claimed the top two individual runners. Joel Mumaw won the race in 16:26.6, followed by second-place Asher Propst in 16:29.4.
After that, Carmel took over. Thomas Biltimier led the ‘Hounds by taking third place, followed by Lucas Lemme in fourth, Jack Capes in sixth and Quavion Hooks in seventh. The sectional championship was a record 46th in program history for Carmel.
Noblesville had two other runners reach the top 10: Luke Shinneman placed ninth and Caden Click was 10th.
Westfield and Guerin Catholic also both advanced to the regional by taking third and fourth place respectively. Garrett Mowry finished in eighth place to lead the Shamrocks, while Johnny King paced the Golden Eagles by taking 13th.
Lebanon picked up the final team-qualifying spot by finishing in fifth. Hamilton Heights placed sixth, but advanced six of its individuals on to the regionals: Steven Case, Clay Forrer, Rudy Bowman, Nathan Cox, Evan Williamson and Drew Monnin all advanced.
University had two runners qualify for the regional, Thomas Price and Ben Gleason.

The Hamilton Southeastern and Fishers teams both competed at the Pendleton Heights sectional on Saturday, and both teams easily advanced on to the Delta regional, which takes place next Saturday at the Muncie Sportsplex.
The Royals won both the girls and boys team championships and also had the individual winner in both races. The girls program thus won its 15th sectional title, while the boys team won its eighth.
Southeastern’s boys scored a perfect 15 points, sweeping the top five spots. Nolan Satterfield led the way with a winning time of 16:22.3. He was followed by Garrett Hicks (second place), Will Marquardt (third), Bennett Dubois (fourth) and Caylor Ash (fifth).
Fishers placed second as a team with 51 points and had three runners reach the top 10. Logan Arive placed seventh, Matthew Kim was ninth and Ben Greiwe was 10th.
In the girls race, the Royals won with 22 points, landing four runners in the top five and five in the top 10. Maggie Powers was the individual winner, finishing in a time of 19:04.9.
Allie Latta was next in line with a second-place result, followed by Grace Newton in fourth and Addison Smith in fifth. Elise Herman placed 10th for HSE.
Fishers scored 59 points to take second place. Elizabeth Barrett finished in third while Megan Mybeck was ninth.
