Cross country: Royals sweep Snider Hokum Karem

The Hamilton Southeastern cross country teams started their season on Saturday by winning the Fort Wayne Snider Coed Hokum Karem.
In the event, a pairing of one boy and one girl ran three miles each. The Royals finished with a total team time of 2 hours, 13 minutes and 36 seconds. Nolan Satterfield and Maggie Powers led Southeastern, placing second in a time of 32 minutes, 25 seconds.
Wil Tuckis and Allie Latta placed fifth in 33:33. The Royals then took positions 10th through 13th: Bennett Dubois/Grace Newton were 10th (33:45), Garrett Hicks and Elizabeth Butler 11th (33:53), Will Marquardt and Elise Herman 12th (33:58) and Ash Caylo and Addison Smith were 13th (33:59).
Two more HSE teams placed in the top 20: Andrew Knight and Jackie Hurlock were 15th (34:26) and Connor Sarkovics and Ciara Kepnter were 16th (34:36).

Carmel and Westfield ran in the Valley Cross Kickoff tournament, which took place Saturday at Terre Haute South.
In the boys race, the Greyhounds finished second with 131 points; Center Grove was the team champion by scoring 65 points. Charlie Leedke led Carmel with a sixth-place finish. Westfield placed eighth, totaling 250 points. Josh Barnett was the Shamrocks’ leader, finishing 19th.
Westfield’s girls placed second, scoring 101 points. Chesterton was the team winner with 72 points. The Shamrocks had four runners score under 20 points, which helped them hold off North Central; the Panthers were third with 104 points. Robyn Schemel led the Shamrocks by placing 12th.
Carmel’s girls team finished in 14th place; Evie Taller took 25th to lead the Greyhounds.
