Cross country regionals: Tigers boys have perfect Saturday

The Fishers boys cross country team had a perfect day at the Delta regional, which took place Saturday at Muncie Sportsplex.
The Tigers dominated the regional, placing all seven of their runners in the top seven. Fishers scored 15 points in winning its fourth consecutive regional title and sixth in program history.
Alec Foster won the race in a time of 16 minutes, 38 seconds. Freshman Sam Quagliaroli was right behind him in second place. Positions three through seven were occupied, respectively, by Tate Meaux, Colin Simons, Caden Carpenter, Nick Pulos and Austin Wilson.
Fishers qualified for next Saturday’s New Haven semi-state, which will take place at Huntington University. Hamilton Southeastern will join the Tigers, as the Royals placed second as a team. The top five teams advance from the regional to the semi-state.
Southeastern’s boys scored 80 points to earn the runner-up position. Connor Sarkovics led the Royals by placing eighth.
In the girls meet, Hamilton Southeastern held off Fishers to defend its regional crown, 45-51. Three freshmen led the way for the Royals: Ciara Kepner placed third, Elizabeth Butler finished seventh and Catey Campbell was eighth.
The Tigers had three runners reach the top 10 as well. Elizabeth Barrett took second, Vera Schafer was fourth and Anna Runion placed 10th.

At the Noblesville regional, the Carmel, Westfield and Noblesville programs all advanced both their girls and boys teams to next Saturday’s Shelbyville semi-state.
In the boys race, the Greyhounds placed a very close second to Brebeuf Jesuit, with the Braves winning 52-54. Carmel’s Kole Mathison was the individual winner, clocking in at 15:22.2. Charlie Schuman took third.
The Millers boys scored 70 points to take third place, and had three runners in the top 10. Joel Mumaw finished in sixth place, Asher Propst was seventh and Caden Click took eighth. The Shamrocks were fourth as a team; Kai Connor finished in fourth place individually.
Guerin Catholic’s Ethan Hines placed ninth in the race and will advance to the semi-state as an individual. the top 10 runners not on advancing teams move on to the semi-state.
In the girls race, Westfield was the runner-up with 82 points, behind only champion North Central’s 72 points, marking the first time since 1996 that the Panthers won a regional title.
Elizabeth Smith finished in ninth place to lead the Shamrocks.
Carmel was a close third, scoring 86 points. Jasmine Klopstad placed fourth and Alivia Romaniuk took sixth place. Noblesville was an equally close fourth, scoring 87 points. Brinkley Cooper led the Millers by placing 12th.
