It took the Noblesville girls cross country team five and three-quarter miles to finally get ahead of Brownsburg at the Plainfield Relays on Saturday.
The Millers won the event with 16 points, ahead of the Bulldogs’ 20. Teams of two runners switch back and forth, running a mile at a time, and the best three places count to the team score.
Abi Little and Aubrie Deal finished second overall with a time of 34:54.57. Aubrie Swart and Sophie Reichard teamed up for a fifth place finish, while Bella Sharples-Gordon and Taylor Gregory also reached the top 10, taking ninth.
The Noblesville girls were among a handful of Hamilton County cross country teams that won events on Saturday. Hamilton Southeastern’s girls triumphed at their own Hokum Karem, scoring 10 points, placing comfortably ahead of runner-up Lawrence North’s 18 points.
Lulu Black and Sam Alphin teamed up to take second place, with Ellie Pedersen and Elle Johnson right behind them in third. The Royals boys were second, edged by Pendleton Heights 15-18. Gabe Fendel and Eric Swinson placed second.
Down at Graham Martin Park in Indianapolis, the Fishers boys team got a win in both the Junior/Senior and the Freshman/Sophomore categories at the Zionsville Invitational. The Tigers were led by Samuel Kuhn, who won the individual race in the Junior/Senior division.
Noblesville’s boys placed second in the Freshman/Sophomore category, with Andrew Anderson taking fifth.
Meanwhile, the Fishers girls team won the Junior/Senior division, with the Freshman/Sophomore group taking second. Debbie Shera was third in the Junior/Senior event.
Carmel’s girls swept both divisions of the three-team North Central XC Warm-Up event, as well as both individual races as well. Phoebe Bates was the winner in the Freshman/Sophomore category, and Anna Morozov took first in the Junior/Senior division.
Hamilton Heights’ girls team was also a Saturday winner, finishing first at the Meister Family Memorial at Monroe Central. The Huskies were led by a 4-5 finish from Maria Mitchell and Abby Christiansen.
Guerin Catholic’s Quinn Gallagher placed first in the boys race at the Joe Harvey Invitational, which took place at Brebeuf Jesuit. Gallagher won the race in 16:23.44 and helped the Golden Eagles edged out Roncalli for third place, 62-63. Brebeuf won the meet with 40 points.
Westfield finished as team runner-up in both the boys and the girls race at the Bloomington North Early Bird meet. Gabby Dilick placed second in the girls division.
