Cross country: Noblesville, Fishers girls win; Carmel sweeps MIC

The Noblesville girls cross country edged out No. 5-ranked Floyd Central for the trophy at the Ted Fox Invitational, which took place at Bedford North Lawrence on Saturday.
The Millers scored 36 points to FC’s 37. Abi Little led Noblesville with a second-place finish, one of four Millers in the top 10. Sophie Reichard placed sixth, Aubrey Swart was seventh and Taylor Gregory finished ninth.

Fishers‘ girls team shrugged off the hot conditions and swept its way to a win in the Navy race of the Delta Invitational.
The Tigers scored 20 points, far ahead of runner-up Centerville’s 75. Corinne O’Leary led a 1-2-3 finish for Fishers, completing the race in 20:24.5. Corinne Yorkman took second, and Emma Julien was third. Mia Contino (sixth) and Erin Johnson (eighth) also landed in the top 10.
“It was a hot day, but that didn’t stop Fishers from dominating the race,” said Tigers coach Beth Jahns.
Fishers’ junior varsity team won that race, scoring a perfect 15 points. Emma Gillespie was the individual winner, clocking in at 22:14.

Carmel swept the Metropolitan Conference cross country meets, which took place Saturday at Ben Davis.
The Greyhound boys took five of the top seven positions while scoring 21 points. Colin Murphy was the race winner in 15:35.86, with Keelan Grant taking second. William Harris was fifth, Calvin Bates placed sixth, and Thomas Gastineau took seventh.
“We had a really solid team effort from many of our guys, including excellent performances again from sophomores Will Murphy and Ben Johnson who will be vital to team success in the tournament,” said Carmel coach Colin Altevogt.
In the girls race, the ‘Hounds won with 30 points. Lindsay Roper led Carmel by taking third; she was joined in the top 10 by Lily McAndrews (fourth), Izza Khurram (sixth), Halle Welch (eighth) and Kierstyn Guerrant (ninth).
“Today our team did exactly what we had hoped,” said Greyhounds coach Andy Dalton. “First off, we won the MIC Championships which was one of our season goals. But even more so, we saw some of our mid-pack varsity runners really step up today which gives us terrific momentum going into the IHSAA tournament season.”

Several county teams competed at the New Haven Invitational on Saturday.
Fishers’ boys team was the runner-up in the AAA race, with Noblesville taking seventh. The Tigers landed three runners in the top 10: Sam Kuhn was seventh, Ethan Meyer finished eighth and Alex Meyer took ninth.
Zachary Freeman led all county runners by taking sixth for the Millers.
Hamilton Heights’ teams competed in the AA division. The Huskies girls placed seventh, with freshman Maria Mitchell finishing in fourth place. Price Knowles led the Heights boys with a 40th place finish.

Westfield and Guerin Catholic competed in the Shelbyville Golden Bear Invitational on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles took fourth in the girls race, with two runners making the top 10. Paige Schemanske finished seventh, with Ellie Schroeder right behind in eighth. The Shamrocks were seventh as a team; Sarah Hamlet led the way by placing 26th.
In the boys race, Westfield finished sixth as a team. Nicholas Leahy had a great run, taking fourth individually. Guerin Catholic placed 12th; Andrew Hall finished 28th.
