The Carmel boys cross country team paced the field at the Valley Kickoff Cross Country meet, which took place Saturday at the LaVern Gibson course in Terre Haute.
The Greyhounds scored 49 points, ahead of runner-up Brebeuf Jesuit’s 64. Carmel had three runners land in the top 10, including race winner Kole Mathison. The sophomore finished in a time of 15:53.6.
Jake Fisher placed fifth, while Charlie Schuman took eighth for the ‘Hounds.
Westfield placed fourth as a team. The Shamrocks were led by a strong performance from Kai Connor, who took third place. Fishers finished 12th, with Cade Carpenter pacing the Tigers by taking 54th.
In the girls meet, Westfield placed second with 92 points, behind only Franklin Community, the winner with 70 points. Sophia Brown led the Shamrocks with a 14th place finish.
