It was rainy on Saturday, which in cross country usually means by default, it will also be a muddy run.
Still, several meets took place around the state anyway. Three Hamilton County boys teams and two girls teams participated in the Wildcat Classic, which Marion hosted at Indiana Wesleyan University.
In the boys race, Hamilton Southeastern was edged out by Valparaiso, 70-71, for the team championship. Noblesville placed third with 86 points while Westfield, splitting its squad between this meet and the Brown County Eagle Invite (see below), placed eighth.
Grant Wilson led the way for the Royals by taking third, while Eric Crothers finished ninth. Travis Hickner was the Millers’ top finisher, placing fourth. Jacob Beene led Westfield, taking 33rd.
In the girls race, HSE finished third and Westfield fourth. The Royals’ Lulu Black had the best finish for any county runner, taking second place. Sarah Coates placed 11th for the Shamrocks.
