Cross country: Fishers’ boys, GC’s Gallagher first at State Preview

Hamilton County could claim two winners at the Terre Haute Savings Bank State Preview, which took place Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course.
Fishers won the boys varsity race, scoring 54 points. The Tigers had three runners finish in the top 10: Will Clark placed fifth, Jaylen Castillo came in seventh and Matthew Leppert was eighth.
Guerin Catholic’s boys took ninth place as a team, scoring 257 points. Holden King paced the Golden Eagles by finishing in 16th.
The Golden Eagles had the girls individual winner: Bridget Gallagher led the field and clocked in with a time of 19:00.5. Guerin’s girls placed 10th as a team, totaling 237 points.

Carmel’s girls scored a razor-thin victory at the Marion XC Invitational on Saturday.
The Greyhounds edged out Fort Wayne Carroll by one point, 42-43, to win the Chuck Schlemmer Girls Elite Race. Carmel had three runners place in the top seven: Jasmine Klopstad took third, Annie Christie was fifth and Cara Naas finished seventh.
Two other county girls teams competed in the meet. Noblesville scored 160 points to place fifth; Summer Rempe paced the Millers by taking 18th. The Fishers girls finished in ninth place by scoring 228 points. Anna Runion led the Tigers with a 19th-place result.
In the boys Elite Race, Carmel finished fourth with 150 points. Charlie Leedke placed eighth for the Greyhounds.

Noblesville’s boys traveled to Columbus North to take part in the Rick Weinheimer Cross Country Classic, and came home with a new school record.
That record now belongs to Travis Hickner, who set a new Millers mark of 15:01.8 while finishing second in the Boys AA Race. Hickner was just behind Whiteland’s Will Jefferson, the winner in a time of 14:59.6.
As a team, Noblesville placed second with 54 points, behind only the top-ranked Bull Dogs and their score of 38 points. Andrew Anderson finished fifth to give the Millers two runners in the top five.

Westfield competed in the Brownsburg Invitational and had high finishes for both teams and individuals.
The Shamrocks boys were the runners-up with a score of 48 points, behind only Franklin Central’s 33 points. Kai Connor was the individual runner-up, one of three Westfield runners in the top 10. Kyler Koning took eighth and Jacob Beene placed 10th.
In the girls race, the Shamrocks were a close third by scoring 59 points. Brownsburg won the championship with 50 points and Franklin Central was second with 54. Sophia Brown placed ninth for Westfield.
