Cross country: Carmel girls, Fishers boys, Noblesville boys teams pick up weekend wins

The Carmel girls cross country team dominated the Brownsburg Invitational last Saturday, scoring 20 points to win the team championship.

The Greyhounds’ top five runners all finished in the top six, with Sadie Foley placing second. The race winner was Indian Creek’s Libby Dowty, who blasted through the course in a time of 16 minutes, 49.48 seconds. Foley’s runner-up time was 18:21.88.

Guerin Catholic scored 145 points. Freshman Taylor Tragesser led the Golden Eagles by placing 11th, breaking 19 minutes by finishing in 18:59.25.

In the boys race, Carmel placed second with 70 points. Host Brownsburg ran away with the team trophy, totaling 36 points.

Kiefer Jay led the Hounds with a 10th-place finish. Guerin Catholic took 10th place as a team; Luke Moster paced the Golden Eagles by taking 11th.

The Fishers boys team took care of business at the Terre Haute North State Preview meet, which took place last Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course, the home of the state finals.

The Tigers won with a score of 43 points, landing all of their top seven runners in the top 20. Senior Sam Quagliaroli finished first in the individual race, clocking in at 15:19.8, exactly 10 seconds ahead of second place. Bryson Slagle took eighth and Nate Thomas was ninth.

In the girls race, Fishers finished a close second to Penn, with the Tigers scoring 40 points to the Kingsmen’s 26 points. Fishers also had the girls winner: freshman Caitlin Hawkins ran the course in 19:11.4. Abby Lotter (fifth) and Isabella Murch (eighth) also reached the top 10.

Noblesville’s boys team also picked up a team victory at the Columbus North Rick Weinheimer Invitational last Saturday.

The Millers totaled 46 points, just ahead of the host Bull Dogs’ 63 points. Three Noblesville runners made the top 10, led by junior John Libs in third place. Banner Barnes finished sixth and Ronnie Neal was 10th.

In the girls race, the Millers placed second with 63 points; Columbus North scored 51 for the team trophy. Three Noblesville girls reached the top 10: Riley Flynn (third), Ansley Applegate (seventh) and Brinkley Cooper (10th).

Westfield’s girls placed fourth at the Marion Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University.

The Shamrocks scored 116 points. Alivia Lozier led the team by placing fifth.
