Guerin Catholic dropped a Circle City Conference game to Covenant Christian 66-52 Saturday at the Eagles Nest.
The Golden Eagles played with the Warriors in the first half, trailing just 13-8 after the first quarter and 31-26 at halftime. But Covenant outscored GC 21-7 in the third period to take control of the game.
“For the second game in a row we were in a five point game at halftime with a pretty good team, unfortunately for the second game in row we got outplayed in the third quarter,” said Guerin Catholic coach Jeff Buckner. “To the girls’ credit they fought extremely hard to get back into the game in the fourth. We were able to attack the basket and get to the foul line for 30 free throws to lead to our best offense effort of the season.”
Nicole Cunningham scored 21 points to lead the Golden Eagles, with Paige Bennett and Kathryn Loso each adding 10.
Guerin Catholic is 0-3 in the conference and 2-6 overall. The Golden Eagles play at Marion on Tuesday.
