Courtney Culver announced on Monday her candidacy for the Carmel City Council’s North Central District. She is the only Democrat who has announced a campaign for this district, which includes the Arts & Design District, Midtown Plaza, and Clay Terrace areas.

The Carmel City Council consists of nine councilors elected to four-year terms. The Council is responsible for managing the city’s budget, approving major projects and infrastructure improvements, and protecting the safety of its citizens.

Culver says she believes she’s uniquely qualified for a city council seat in this district.

“It’s imperative that Carmel’s councilors have the skills and experience needed to responsibly manage and lead our city,” she said. “Leading a functional city government should not be about who you know, but what you know. Carmel is not a small town – it is a city with a population of over 100,000 and growing. We need a legislative branch that will protect our independent business owners and private citizens alike – armed with relevant professional knowledge, expertise and acumen.

“If elected, I will draw on my experience in managing massive budgets, leading large-scale projects and optimizing resources. I will make decisions that support the needs of our city and will not be driven by my ego or politics.”

Culver is a leader in a global technology company and her experience spans more than two decades in the non-profit, telecommunications, financial, and technology sectors. She currently oversees teams that focus on operational excellence, data analytics, marketing, internal communications and change management. She has also volunteered her time leading global employee resource groups focused on supporting and protecting LGBTQ+ employees and communities.

Culver holds a bachelor’s in journalism from Franklin College and a master’s in organizational leadership from Siena Heights University in Michigan. She has lived in the North Central District for 12 years with her husband of 20 years, their 17-year-old daughter and their nine-year-old basset hound.

“My family and I moved to Carmel in 2011 and built a home in the Arts & Design District in 2021,” Culver said. “We live, shop, eat, exercise and socialize in the North Central District and are fully invested in its future. This is a pivotal local election year and I encourage all residents to vote for council and mayoral candidates you feel will represent and welcome all citizens, and who will lead Carmel responsibly as it continues to grow.”

The municipal primary elections are May 2, and the general election will take place on Nov. 7. Culver will hold her campaign kickoff event on March 2 at The Cat in downtown Carmel. More information on this event, her campaign and Carmel’s voting districts can be found at CulverForCarmel.com.
