Hamilton County wrestling teams will once again have a large contingent at the New Castle semi-state, which takes place on Saturday.
The meet begins at 9 a.m., with 16 wrestlers competing in each weight division. The top four in each division advance to next weekend’s state finals – wrestlers must win two matches to punch their ticket to state.
There will be an early all-county matchup at New Castle. Hamilton Heights’ Isaiah Rodriguez takes on Westfield’s Braxton Vest in a 106-pound bout. Rodriguez qualified out of the Pendleton Heights regional, while Vest advanced from the North Montgomery regional.
Carmel has the most semi-state qualifiers with 13, followed by Westfield’s nine qualifiers. Hamilton Southeastern will have seven at the semi-state, Fishers has four, Hamilton Heights three and Guerin Catholic one.
