County Recorder says residents should sign up for property fraud protection

New system means everyone must re-enroll in alerts

The Hamilton County Recorder’s Office has transitioned to a new, free alert service that provides enhanced protection against one of the fastest-growing white-collar crimes in the country: property fraud.

Property fraud occurs when someone illegally records a fraudulent document – such as a fake deed – making it appear as if they legally own someone else’s property.

To help residents combat this threat, the Recorder’s Office now offers Property Fraud Alert, a free notification service that alerts subscribers any time a document is recorded in their name. This service takes the place of the county’s previous service, Doxpop.com, which means residents who were registered with that service must re-enroll in the new Property Fraud Alert system.

“Your property is likely the most significant investment you’ll ever make, and we want to help you safeguard it,” Recorder Trini Beaver said. “By signing up for property fraud protection, you are taking a proactive step to stay ahead of criminals who prey on property owners.”

With growing concerns around mortgage fraud and identity theft, the system acts as an early warning tool, allowing property owners to quickly respond if suspicious activity is detected. Subscribers also receive confirmation notifications when legitimate documents are successfully recorded.

Residents can sign up for free at propertyfraudalert.com or by calling the Property Fraud Alert hotline at 800-728-3858.
