It’s time to prepare for severe weather season, and Governor Eric Holcomb proclaimed March 12-18, 2023, to be Severe Weather Preparedness Week.

The statewide tornado drill is scheduled for approximately 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14. To prepare for the drill, Hamilton County Emergency Management (HCEM) will resume the weekly sounding of the outdoor warning sirens at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 10.

“The outdoor warning sirens are intended to warn those who are outdoors,” HCEM Executive Director Shane Booker said. “Because sirens are not intended to warn those indoors, we recommend that every household and business have a weather radio.”

Knowing what to do and where to go starts by understanding a watch versus a warning. A watch means it is time to get ready, and a warning means take action. The three key elements of being prepared for any emergency or disaster are making a plan, building a disaster kit, and staying informed by downloading the Emergency Management App, along with having a weather radio.
