County golfers making impact at Boys State Junior Championship, naturally

The REPORTER

There’s another big junior golf tournament taking place in Indiana this week, and Hamilton County golfers are making an impact, of course.

The Indiana Golf Association is hosting the Boys State Junior Championship, which began Monday at Purdue University’s Ackerman-Allen Course. The tournament started with 36-hole stroke play Monday and Tuesday, and moves into match play today, with the top 64 qualifying.

Thirteen Hamilton County golfers have made it to match play, including three in the top 10. Westfield senior-to-be Will Harvey is tied for fourth with a three under par 140. Harvey blasted to a seven under par 65 in his first round, with seven birdies, then scored 75 in his second round, with two more birdies.

Jake Cesare, another incoming Westfield senior, is in seventh place with a two under 141. Cesare had a bogey-free first round, finishing with a four under 67, totaling four birdies and 14 pars. He made four more birdies in his second round of 74.

Leo Wessel, a recent Guerin Catholic graduate, totaled a 144 for stroke play. Wessel carded an even par 71 during his first round, making four birdies, then scored 73 in his second round, draining two birdies.

Match play begins today at 8 a.m. for the first round. The second round of play (Round of 32) will take place once the first round is complete.

Here is a list of all Hamilton County golfers and their stroke play scores.
