County athletes in the Hoosier State Relays qualifying mix

Noblesville’s Bella Sharples-Gordon is part of the Millers’ 4x400 relay, which currently sits in 16th place in the Hoosier State Relays qualifying list. The Hoosier State Relays has become the Indiana high school track and field’s de facto indoor state championship.
It is certainly made for the elite. In order to qualify for the meet, a runner must be ranked in the top 24 in any of the running events, long jump and shot put, and the top 18 in the high jump and pole vault. This year’s Relays take place on Saturday, March 24 at the Gladstein Fieldhouse in Indiana University.
There are two separate competitions for small schools, those who have IHSAA football teams in Classes 1A, 2A and 3A, and large schools, for those with football teams in 4A, 5A and 6A. The small schools will start their meet at 8 a.m., with the large schools beginning at 2 p.m.
Hamilton County already has quite a few athletes in the mix. That includes several on the top of the list for their respective events. Two are from Hamilton Southeastern: Madison Norris leads the boys 60 hurdles list with a time of 8.18, while Camille Christopher is on top of the 60 dash roster, with a time of 7.72.
Westfield’s boys 4×200 relay is in front in that event, while Carmel’s boys 4×800 leads that list. The Greyhounds’ Kara Deady is first in the pole vault (11-9), while Noblesville’s Maria Anderson is on top of the long jump (17-8). Carmel also has the current top times in the 4×800 and distance medleys, while HSE is pacing the 4×200 relay.
In the small schools, the current highest qualifier is the Hamilton Heights’ girls 4×400 relay, in third place. The Huskies boys are led by Isiah Kunzer, who is fourth on the boys pole vault list. Guerin Catholic’s Quinn Gallagher is sixth in the 3200, while the Golden Eagles’ boys 4×200 is also sixth. Sheridan’s Heather Barker is tied for 10th in the girls high jump.
More meets are scheduled for this weekend, including the Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet, which is today at Wabash College.
Meanwhile, here is a list of the top 50 times and distances in each division.
