Coroner’s Office grateful for quilt donations, more needed

Hamilton County Chief Deputy Coroner Jeff Jellison recently requested the public’s help with donating quilts and blankets for the deceased. Jellison wants to use the quilts to replace the typical white sheets as an effort to soften the experience when family members and loved ones have the unfortunate task of identifying a deceased person in the morgue.

Jellison said the community has really stepped up by providing several quilts; however, the Coroner’s Office is experiencing an unprecedented number of death investigations and more quilts are needed.

“Although several people have brought quilts and blankets into the office, none have wanted to be publicly recognized,” Jellison said. “I think that speaks volumes for our community.  These people just want to support the grieving families.”

According to Jellison, the quilts will remain with the deceased while in the morgue and will transfer to the funeral home for final arrangements.
