Consumer Alert: Hoosiers should consider deleting 23andMe accounts to protect personal data

Submitted by Office of the Attorney General

Rokita

With the genetic testing company 23andMe filing for bankruptcy, Hoosiers should consider deleting their accounts to protect their personal information, Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita warned on Monday.

“This is a company that holds very sensitive information pertaining to the individuals who use its services,” AG Rokita said. “This data could be considered an asset to be sold or transferred as part of any potential bankruptcy proceeding. The best way for Hoosiers to protect their information is to delete their accounts now.”

Currently, consumers wishing to delete their accounts can file a request at this link.
