Connie Sue Wilson

October 11, 1938 – October 3, 2021

Connie Sue Wilson, 82, Westfield, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday evening, October 3, 2021 at Compassus Hospice Center in Indianapolis. She was born in Tipton County on October 11, 1938, and attended Sheridan High School.

Connie worked for Aero Drapery as a seamstress and floor supervisor for 10 years. She also worked in the cafeteria at Westfield Elementary School for several years.

Connie never grew tired of traveling with her husband. Together they would visit as much of the country as they could. She and her family enjoyed camping, exploring, and making memories. She felt the most at peace when she was experiencing nature, whether she was working in her garden or just watching the birds and squirrels come and eat the snacks that she had left for them.

For Connie there was nothing more important than family. She followed her children’s, and later her grandchildren’s sporting events with a passion. Every night there was at least one person playing something, somewhere, and Connie was right there in the stands. Every year, there seemed to be a few weeks where nobody seemed to be playing anything, and that was Connie’s chance to head for Florida. She would soak up the sun and hit the beach for a few weeks, but she was always home for Christmas – no exceptions. Santa and Mrs. Claus had to be booked, presents for all the kids and grandkids had to be bought and wrapped, and the family get together had to be planned out to perfection. This was no small task, but Connie was in her element. She would prepare for the holiday season by hitting every garage sale, fair and festival throughout the year, putting her legendary frugality and coupon clipping to the test.

She also loved playing cards with her mother and mother-in-law, as well as the occasional round or two of golf.

Connie is survived by her sons, Gary Allen Cockrell of Arcadia, Ricky D. Sexton (Mary) of Muncie, James Wayne Sexton (Michelle) of Sheridan, Mark Marion Sexton (Rebecca) of Spanish Fort, Ala., and Robert Wilson (Kathy) of Zionsville; daughters, Valerie Sue Adkins (Richard) of Speedway, and Marilyn Jean Lee of Hamilton, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, James Allen Hoover of Peru, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her mother; Nina Belle (Bilby) Hoover; son-in-law, John Lee; and by her husband, Bobbie Gene Wilson, on May 18, 2001. She and Bobbie were married on May 9, 1964.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan, with Visitation from noon until the time of Service. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery in Westfield. Connie’s nephew Kenneth Cockrell will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to the Alzheimer’s Association.
