The Kings of Queen: Tribute to Queen

Established in 2021, the Kings of Queen have already built a reputation as one of the top tributes to the legendary British rock band Queen. Lead vocalist Emo Alaeddin recreates the persona of frontman Freddie Mercury with unparalleled vocal tone and range, a striking physical resemblance, and frequent costume changes. The band is committed to the finest musicianship and live four-part vocal harmonies, never using harmonizer devices or prerecorded backing tracks.

For over two decades, Peter Sagal has hosted NPR’s Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me!, the topical comedy quiz show heard by millions each week. In this talk, “Front Row at the Sideshow: What I’ve Learned in 25 Years of Hosting America’s Most Beloved News Quiz,” he boils his experience down to important findings, such as what NPR listeners love most; the difference between Republicans and Democrats; why sex makes us crazy; why we’re so susceptible to cultish thinking; and the human flaw underlying all our troubles: the inability to admit we’ve been fooled.

Go online for a live JazzTalk conversation with Don Was, who will perform with his band the Pan-Detroit Ensemble on Feb. 28 at the Palladium. Was will discuss his early years in the business, his work with some of the greatest musicians of our time, his experiences running a prestigious record label, and his current tour as bassist and leader of the Pan-Detroit Ensemble, a collective of top jazz musicians from his hometown of Detroit. Registration is free, and questions will be taken from the audience following the conversation.

The Warren Haynes Band: Million Voices Whisper Tour

Grammy-winning artist Warren Haynes is a prolific songwriter, producer and one of the most formidable guitarists and vocalists of the modern era. As a solo artist and member of the Allman Brothers Band, Gov’t Mule, and the Dead, he has built a reputation as a treasured storyteller. Haynes’ new solo album, Million Voices Whisper, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Blues Albums Chart and features guest appearances by Lukas Nelson, Jamey Johnson, and former Allman Brothers bandmate Derek Trucks. His touring band includes longtime drummer Terence Higgins (Dirty Dozen Brass Band), Gov’t Mule bassist Kevin Scott, keyboardist Matt Slocum and saxophonist Greg Osby.

Folsom Prison Experience: Legendary 1968 Johnny Cash Concert

The iconic 1968 live album At Folsom Prison made Johnny Cash a crossover superstar, defying conventions and leaving a lasting legacy. Now audiences can relive the unforgettable day of Jan. 13, 1968, as Folsom Prison Experience takes the stage with an immersive tribute that merges live concert, stage drama and audience participation to bring you into the heart of Cash’s musical journey. The cast is led by co-writer Jay Ernest and his tribute band, Church of Cash. Other characters include June Carter, Carl Perkins and the Statler Brothers.

Local musician Ms. Michelle of ShooBeeLoo Music and Movement will lead you and your child as you rhythmically zoom, float, fly, gallop and chug along to the music. Your child will learn musical concepts using voices, instruments, toys, movement, and imagination.

Wariner is a member of the Musicians Hall of Fame, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame and the National Thumbpickers Hall of Fame, and one of only five guitarists in the world to receive the Certified Guitar Player title from Chet Atkins. Epiphany Dance Collective: West African Drum and Dance

Drum beats and dancing will fill the Studio theater as Epiphany African Dance Collective takes you on an interactive journey of West African dance and music. Children and adults will have a chance to be part of the show as the dancers bring them on stage to teach steps and movement. Your body and soul will be enlightened by this energetic and colorful performance.

Designed for children ages 1 to 7, Peanut Butter & Jam sessions encourage young children to become engaged in the arts.

Kalani Pe’a: Grammy-winning Singer, Songwriter
Saturday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m.

Kalani Peʻa is a Hawaiian singer-songwriter who performs his original Hawaiian songs alongside affectionate bilingual arrangements of R&B favorites, a style he calls “Hawaiian contemporary soul.” An avid performer since childhood, he worked as a teacher and children’s book author before turning to a career in music. He has released five albums since 2016, three winning the Grammy Award for Best Regional Roots Music Album and his latest, Kuini, nominated for 2025. He was the first Hawaiian singer to perform in Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series and also has performed in Carnegie Hall’s Musical Explorers youth program.

Special guest: Opening the show will be Indy Hula, a nonprofit group based in Indianapolis dedicated to spreading awareness of Polynesian culture, song and dance. Learn more at IndyHula.org.

Live at the Center: Malingo

Promising “Wild Folk for Wild Folk,” Malingo’s music blends folk, bluegrass, and psychedelic blues for a sound that is often nostalgic, often melancholy, often intense, but always emotional. The semi-acoustic five-piece band is known for crafting unique live sets and for its prolific recording, including the new 10-track album Campfire Sessions, Vol. 1.

Detroit native Don Was has enjoyed a multifaceted career as a musician, record producer, music director, film composer, documentary filmmaker, radio host, and president of the venerated jazz label Blue Note Records. As a record producer, he has won six Grammy Awards and worked with artists including the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, John Mayer, Ringo Starr, Wayne Shorter, and the B-52’s. Was also has toured the U.S. with Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir as the Wolf Brothers. His latest group, the Pan-Detroit Ensemble, is made up of top Detroit jazz and R&B musicians including saxophonist Dave McMurray and keyboardist Luis Resto, celebrating the city’s rich musical traditions.
