What do you get when you put four gifted, nationally known comedians and lots of people in the Westfield High School auditorium? A great night of meeting local neighbors and lots and lots of laughter!

This event is part of CrossRoads Church at Westfield’s effort to meet, know, enjoy, and serve their local neighbors, called For Our Neighbor.

CrossRoads Church at Westfield held its seventh annual free Pizza and Punchlines Comedy Event this past Saturday night, Feb. 18, with free pizza for all and outstanding comics from across the county.

Marty Simpson, former South Carolina Gamecock football star, who has been featured on ESPN, BET, Nickelodeon, Amazon Prime Video and his DryBar Comedy special, was the headliner for the evening. Clean Comic of Nashville award winner Christy Conder from Tennessee brought her comedic perspective as a mom, wife, and Special Education teacher. Horace H. B. Sanders, the reigning “CBS Star Search Comedy Champion” with a combined perfect score from live home audience and celebrity judges came from Detroit. Ross Bennett from New York, having made his comedic debut on the David Letterman show, was the host for the evening.

One of the attenders commented, “Sometimes when you see the word ‘free’ associated with an event, you think mediocre, but this night was really top-notch! You have created an annual event with the best clean comics around.”

Another said, “This event needs to continue. It is a great way for our community to come together and enjoy the good things that we share in common and even to learn to laugh at ourselves.”

Did you miss out? Want more laughs? CrossRoads Church’s next big event is their second annual free PopCorn and Punchlines Comedy Showcase. It will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 2 at the IMMI Conference Center, 18880 N. East St., Westfield.

Eight comedians from seven different states will entertain with their wit and humor. The night will feature comedians Rhonda Corey from Rhode Island, Michele VanDusen from Oklahoma, Lee Hardin based out of Nashville, Tenn., June Colson from Kentucky, Dorie McLemore hailing from Texas, Mike James and Brian Kohatsu from Arizona, and Leslie Rob coming in from Virginia.
