November 18, 1933 – August 5, 2024
Claudie Christine “Chris” Gordon, 90, Carmel, passed away August 5, 2024. She was born in Huntsville, Texas, on November 18, 1933, to Ruby and Willie Kelley.
Chris moved to Carmel as a young girl where she attended Carmel schools and graduated from Carmel High School in 1951. Chris had three jobs in her entire life: Brown’s Pharmacy in Carmel, Merchant Bank, and the Union State Bank for the following 30 years, advancing to become the first female Vice President before retiring.
Remaining active in retirement, Chris served on the Carmel High School Alumni Association Board for several years. She was also involved in multiple organizations, including the Special Olympics, Trailblazers bowling program, and Agape horseback riding center, among others. Chris was affectionately known as “the Crazy Old Lady” by her family, due to her spirited and fun-loving nature, a nickname she was very proud of. Chris was an avid reader, a woman of faith, and the matriarch of her loving family.
In additions to her parents, Chris was preceded in death by her husband, Francis “Hap” Gordon; and her beloved black Cocker Spaniel, Doogie.
Family and friends will gather from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, August 12, 2024, at Bussell Family Funerals, where the Funeral Service will begin at 4 p.m. with Chaplain David Gibson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Chris are suggested to the Carmel Clay Historical Society. Envelopes will be available at the service.
Bussell Family Funerals is privileged to assist the family in arrangements.
