Class 2A Sectionals 39 & 42 previews

For 383 high school baseball teams, the quest for four state championships begins tonight and concludes on June 20 and 21 at Victory Field in Indianapolis. A total of 379 games will be played in a 25-day span.

Hamilton County’s nine schools will be featured in five different sectionals. Class 2A Sectional 39 at Lapel in the north is where Sheridan plays. University plays in the south in Sectional 42 at Park Tudor.

 

Class 2A Sectional 39 at Lapel

Taylor Titans (1-19) vs. Tipton Blue Devils (7-15): tonight, 5:30 p.m.

Sheridan Blackhawks (10-13) vs. Frankton Eagles (13-10): tonight, to follow

The Blackhawks had a rough start, beginning the season 2-9. They have since turned their season around, going 8-4 down the stretch and have a chance to make some noise in Sectional 39 at Lapel

Sheridan has quality wins over Western Boone, Clinton Central, Carroll, Delphi and Tri-Central.

The Blackhawks are 2-2 against Sectional 39 and more importantly, lost 18-5 to first-round opponent Frankton on April 28.

Semifinal #1 – Taylor/Tipton winner vs. Sheridan/Frankton winner: tomorrow, 5:30 p.m.

Semifinal #2 – Elwood Panthers (3-25) vs. No. 1 Lapel Bulldogs (25-2): tomorrow to follow

Championship game – Semifinal #1 winner vs. Semifinal # 2 winner: June 2, 5:30 p.m.

 

Class 3A Sectional 42 at Park Tudor

University Trailblazers (16-11) vs. Monrovia Bulldogs (10-12): tonight, 6 p.m.

University got off to a 3-1 start to its season with spring break wins over Wayne County (KY), Owensboro Catholic (KY) and Christian Educational Consortium (KY). After losing four consecutive, the ‘Blazers took 4 out of 5 against Muncie Burris, Lewis Cass, Liberty Christian and Blackford.

The Trailblazers had numerous key wins, including Seton Catholic, Hamilton Heights, Lawrence North, Brebeuf Jesuit, Greenwood Christian Academy, Park Tudor and Eastbrook.

University went 2-0 in the regular season against Sectional 42 foes with wins over Cardinal Ritter and Park Tudor.

Semifinal #1 – Covenant Christian Warriors (17-11) vs. Park Tudor Panthers (13-9), Saturday, 11:30 a.m.

Semifinal #2 – University/Monrovia winner vs. Cardinal Ritter (3-17), Saturday, to follow

Championship game – June 2, 6 p.m.
