Cicero’s own Megan Girod earns $1K Duke Energy scholarship

Megan Girod of Cicero will receive a $1,000 scholarship from Duke Energy to help pay for her post-high school education.

Girod, a graduate of Hamilton Heights High School, is one of five Indiana high school students selected as part of the 2022 Duke Energy Scholars Program. This fall, she will attend Purdue University in West Lafayette to study animal science with a concentration in pre-veterinarian medicine. She is the daughter of Jessy and Christina Girod.

“We’re proud to support dedicated individuals like Megan that recognize the value and importance of furthering their education,” Duke Energy Indiana President Stan Pinegar said. “We are honored to provide scholarships to help local students continue to learn and explore future careers.”

Scholarships are awarded annually to graduating high school seniors who are the dependent children of qualified Duke Energy employees and retirees. Award recipients are selected based on academic record, leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors and awards, adult appraisal, work experience and other factors.

Scholarship winners do not have to work for Duke Energy after graduation and there is no implied promise of a job.
