All aboard! There’s a new café and bakery coming to Atlanta this fall. The Choo Choo Café is slated to open in downtown Atlanta in September.

Once completed, the Choo Choo Café will offer traditional breakfast and lunch fare, as well as bakery items and coffee. The café will be located along the historic Nickel Plate railroad and will feature a robust display of railroad photography inside.

Choo Choo Café owners, Steve and Liz Nelson, operate the popular Mr. Muffin’s Trains in downtown Atlanta. The Choo Choo Café is currently undergoing renovations. Nelson says the diner will have a rural feel that celebrates railroad history.

“Atlanta is our home,” said Steve Nelson. “My wife and I have been pouring our efforts into making Atlanta, Ind., a railroading destination. We are committed to creating family activities and experiences.”

Nelson is an avid train enthusiast and serves on the Nickel Plate Express board of directors in addition to owning and operating Mr. Muffin’s Trains. The Nelsons hope that the Nickel Plate Express, arriving in September, will spur growth in downtown Atlanta.

The Nelsons have started a Kickstarter fund for those wishing to help their family-oriented café reach completion by September. Around $10,000 has already been raised for the project. Those wishing to donate to the Choo Choo Café renovation fund can visit the Kickstarter or Facebook pages.
