Chippin’ mosaics, chompin’ strawberries at Carmel’s Meet Me on Main

Meet Me on Main returns Saturday, June 8 in the Carmel Arts & Design District and event organizers are thrilled to welcome Nancy Keating of Mosaic Gardens and Carmel Art on Main Gallery and Gifts. She will host a CHIP IN Community Mosaic in the breezeway near Sub Zero Ice Cream. You can start “chipping in” at 4 p.m.

This month also features a sweet new addition, the St. Christopher’s Annual Strawberry Festival. They will serve homemade strawberry shortcakes in the PNC parking lot from noon to 8 p.m.

This event that also will include all of your favorite components of the “gallery walks” including live music, face painting, caricatures, new exhibits and features in local art galleries and businesses staying open until 9 p.m.

The Meet Me on Main monthly drawing will take place once again. Each month, three $100 gift cards to businesses in the Arts & Design District will be given away. To enter, visit participating galleries and businesses to fill out an entry form. Only one can be filled out per location, but the more businesses visited, the more you can increase your chances. There is no purchase necessary to participate.

Special gallery exhibits this month include:

  • Dick Gerard will be demonstrating his various finishing techniques at Indiana Artisan. Gerard is the maestro behind hand-turned bowls and ultra-cool pizza cutters, pepper mills and ice cream scoops. While you are in the store, be sure to enjoy a complementary wine tasting from Blackhawk Winery. The June solo show in the north gallery is “Reflections: Past and Present” which features watercolors and drawings by Joyce K. Jensen. (22 N. Range Line Road)
  • Carmel Art on Main Gallery will feature “Unbreakable Bonds” abstract art by Barb Gregory and Deb Slack. (111 W. Main St., #140)
  • CCA Gallery is featuring artists Joy Cobb and Nancy Miller. Joy’s abstract paintings play with color, shapes and texture. She pours her paints over the canvas and blows and tilts the canvas creating a creative piece of art. Nancy takes gourds to another level by incorporating unique bits into them. She uses items such as eucalyptus pods from Australia, small pebbles from California near the Golden Gate Bridge and riblet bones from Applebee’s. Both artists will be at the gallery from 4 to 8 p.m. to share their inspiration behind their work. (111 W. Main St., #135)
  • All Things Carmel will host a book signing for “Hamilton County Food – From Causal Grub to Gastropubs” from 5 to 7 p.m. with the author, Karen Kennedy. (110 W. Main St., #104)
  • The Carmel Arts Council Children’s Art Gallery will host a Meet the Artist night. Guests will get to meet the 2019 CAC Visual Arts Scholarship winners, Brendan Mudd and Katie Phan. The gallery will feature the artworks of these talented young artists. (40 W. Main St.)
  • Soori Gallery features paintings, bronze and acrylic sculptured works by leading American and international artists. Featured sculptors include Michael Wilkinson, Frederick Hart, Jerry Joslin and more. (33 E. Main St.)
  • The CCPL Digital Media Lab will unveil the finalists for the “Critters of Carmel” photo contest. (23 E. Main St.)
  • The Carmel Clay Historical Society will continue showcasing “Wild, Wild, Midwest: Indiana Train Heists of the 1800s.” (211 1st St. SW)
  • The Evan Lurie Gallery will continue featuring “Play Nice,” an exhibit that opened in May. Local artist, Matthew Aaron, collaborated with Brooklyn based artists Al Diaz and Jilly Ballistic. (30 W. Main St.)

Activities taking place during Meet Me on Main include:

  • Free caricatures and face painting by Custom Eyes Designs outside of All Things Carmel (110 W. Main St., #104).
  • Free musical entertainment throughout the district. Rosie Inman will play in Highgarden Real Estate, Emma Hedrick will perform in Magdalena Gallery, Molly Jones will perform in Indiana Artisan and Kassey King will perform in the Olive Mill.
  • CHIP IN Community Mosaic returns with Nancy Keating of Mosaic Gardens and Carmel Art on Main. Attendees can participate in a community mosaic tile project in the breezeway near Sub Zero. You can start “chipping in” at 4 p.m. (111 W. Main St.)
