Jeremy Chinn, a 2016 graduate of Fishers High School, has been drafted into the NFL.
Chinn, who had an outstanding career at Southern Illinois University, was taken by the Carolina Panthers Friday night in the second round as the 64th pick. In an interview on the panthers.com website, the 6-foot-3, 212-pound Chinn is expected to play safety and also have roles in nickel packages.
As a safety for the Salukis, Chinn totaled 71 tackles (48 solo and 23 assists) during his senior season and caught four interceptions. He was named as a Consensus All-American and was voted to the First Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference for the second year; he was also named to the First Team in his junior year. In four years at SIU, Chinn totaled 243 tackles and 13 interceptions.
Chinn was an All-State player for Fishers and the team defensive MVP during his senior season, where he set school records for interceptions in a career and a season and interception return yards in a season.
