Executive Director Dr. Jack Powell announced the appointment of Jessica Herzog to the Smart Steps Coordinator position at Chaucie’s Place. Herzog holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Bellarmine University. She has served as a Victim Advocate in a domestic violence shelter, a Legal Advocate for victims of violent crime during the court process and as an intern at the Special Victim’s Unit at the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department. Above all she has a passion for education and prevention in the areas of sexual abuse and domestic violence.
Jessica will oversee a program that will reach more than 25,000 elementary aged students across a multitude of school districts in Central Indiana. In reflecting on the year ahead she stated, “I feel incredibly honored to serve as Chaucie’s Place Smart Steps Program Coordinator. The mission of Chaucie’s Place is one that is very close to my heart. Throughout my professional career I have focused my efforts on helping victims of violent crime. It is my belief that through education we can help to prevent the dark cycle of child sexual abuse. It is my greatest passion to help with that prevention.”
Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children™ is a prevention and education program that teaches elementary school-aged children that their bodies belong to them, it is okay to say “NO!” to unwanted touches from anyone, to tell a trusted adult and abuse is never their fault. These messages of empowerment will affect these children for a lifetime, as well as their friends and siblings, and their own children one day.
Chaucie’s Place is a nonprofit child advocacy organization that works to prevent child sexual abuse and youth suicide through prevention programs for children, adults and school systems.
