Chase Evans Furnas, Sr., 96, died on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, in Spartanburg, S.C. He was born in Westfield, Ind., on June 15, 1927, to Wade E. Furnas and Georgianna Puckett Furnas, and was the last of nine siblings.
He is survived by his children, Chase Evans Furnas, Jr. (Amber Wilkie) and Anna Furnas Harris (Kenneth Harris); as well as five grandchildren, Gregory Evans Harris, William Aaron Harris, Logan Chase Harris, Greyson Connor, and Franklin Wade Furnas; two great-grandchildren, Gregory Cash Harris and Landry Evans Harris; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a special friend, Patricia Rock.
Chase attended Westfield High School and graduated from Butler University. He served a brief tour in the U.S. Navy, and then had a long career in Insurance sales and Commercial Real Estate. He was a Kiwanis Club member, as well as several other community organizations. His favorite hobbies and activities were golfing, gardening, cheering on the Butler Bulldogs, and spending time with his family and friends. He loved trips back home to Indiana and made sure his grandsons got to love it as much as he did. Chase loved his family beyond measure and made it known in many thoughtful ways. He was also extremely witty and always the life of the party. His stories and jokester pranks will always be fondly remembered. Chase was a fine example of an eternal optimist.
A graveside service was held on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg. Pastor Manning Strickland officiated.
