Charles “Franklin” Hinshaw

February 12, 1923 – January 10, 2018

Charles “Franklin” Hinshaw, a World War II Veteran, Carmel, died January 10, 2018 due to a stroke. He was born on February 12, 1923, son of Jett and Freida Brown Hinshaw. Franklin was a 1941 graduate of Carmel High School.

Franklin enlisted in the US Army September 15, 1942 to fight for freedom. He served until October 1945 as a B-24 Liberator pilot in the 578th Bomb Squadron 392nd Bomb Group stationed in Wendling, England.

Franklin worked at Allison Division of GM for 37 years before retiring in 1983.

Known to his family and friends as a philosopher, he loved to engineer and build everything needed to maintain his home and garden.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Anna Mairs Hinshaw; children, Les Hinshaw (Helen), Tom Hinshaw (Kathy), Judy Singleton (Jim) and Jeff Hinshaw (Marilyn); 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, Carmel, where the Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m.
