Think on These Things
To find peace, contentment and purpose in life it may be necessary for us to change glasses.
What do I mean by that? Simply, we may have to change how we look at life. It would be so much easier to enjoy the peace that passes understanding if we learned to look at life the way God does.
In Proverbs 17:1, Solomon wrote: Better is a dry morsel with a quiet house than a house full of feasting with strife. Again, in Ecc. 4:6, he wrote: Better is a handful of quietness than two hands full of toil and a striving after wind.
How true these words are! We would be so much better off if we listened to God and learned to look at things from His perspective. The apostle Paul wrote of a similar sentiment to the young man Timothy when he wrote: Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs (1 Timothy 6:6-10).
How true and wise these words are! What a blessing to take this teaching and make it the foundation of how we function in this high-pressure world!
In Isaiah 40:29-31 the prophet wrote of some things the Lord does for His people. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted. But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Do you want to be contented in this life? Do you want to soar with eagles? Learn to wait on the Lord. After all, His timing is far better than ours. Trust in the Lord to provide and change glasses to see the world as God sees it.
