Multiyear agreement supports arts camp for youth with disabilities

Indianapolis-based architecture and engineering firm American Structurepoint has entered a multiyear partnership with the Center for the Performing Arts to support an annual camp for youth with disabilities.

The Prism Project at the Center, which just completed its second year on campus, is a recreational performing arts day camp for youth with a range of cognitive, physical, and sensory disabilities. Over the course of a month – guided by professional arts instructors and supported by one-on-one volunteer Buddies – the young performers develop a musical variety show built around their unique interests and abilities. This year’s 23 performers, ranging from elementary age to mid-20s, staged a public performance June 23 at the Studio Theater of their production, This Is Me!, highlighting each individual’s unique gifts.

“I am so impressed with the Center for the Performing Arts and the goal of the Prism Project to provide an engaging performing arts program for individuals with disabilities,” American Structurepoint CEO Rick Conner said. “This program is a shining example of our company’s mission to improve the quality of life for the people and communities we serve. American Structurepoint is honored to sponsor this program that expands and enhances the performing arts experience for all.”

American Structurepoint, a full-service architecture and engineering firm with 18 design centers around the country, is exactly the kind of corporate partner the Center seeks out, said Jeffrey C. McDermott, President/CEO of the Center for the Performing Arts.

“We are very proud of the Prism Project and so grateful that a highly respected corporation like American Structurepoint sees its value and is willing to support it,” McDermott said. “The firm clearly shares our commitment to the Indiana community, and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship.”
