Carmel wrestling wins team regional

The Carmel wrestling team won the North Montgomery regional on Saturday.
The Greyhounds scored 186.5 points to take the team title, and also qualified 13 of their wrestlers on to next Saturday’s New Castle semi-state. Carmel had three champions: Suhas Chundi at 106 pounds, Brac Hooper at 113 pounds and Gabe Davin at 170 pounds.
Greyhounds runners-up were Joey Langeman at 126 pounds, Brendan Mattingly at 138, Jake Shafer at 145, Jackson Mitchell at 160. Three more wrestlers took third: Garrett Sharp at 182 pounds, Zach White at 195 and Haakon Van Beynen at 220. Carmel fourth-place finishers were Luke Farling at 120, TJ Barrett at 132, Paul Ginella at 152.
Westfield finished second in the team standings with 127.5 points and qualified nine wrestlers on to the semi-state. Carson Eldred improved to 36-1 on the season by winning at 120 pounds.
Runners-up for the Shamrocks were Braxton Vest at 106, Milo Merkel at 132, Alec McLaren at 152, Dakota Arvin at 220 and Mike Platonov at 285. Dylan Driver finished third at 113 pounds, while Brady Drlik (126) and Gabe Arvin (195) placed fourth.
Hamilton Southeastern was fourth as a team, scoring 106 points, and advanced seven to the semi-state. The Royals had two champions: Reece Luhmann at 145 pounds and Andrew Irick at 285; Irick is 30-1 for the season. Jacob Simone (120) and Ronan Hiner (170) were runners-up. Gaige Lloyd placed third at 132, as did Jake Lemieux at 138. Max Broom took fourth at 182.
Fishers scored 50 points to take sixth place and had four state qualifiers. JD Farrell won the 195-pound division, improving to 35-1 for the season. PJ Pritchett finished third at 120 pounds, as did Tyler Lindamood at 145. Griffin Ingalls took fourth at 113.
Over at Pendleton Heights, Guerin Catholic’s Jeff Dunasky became the school’s first-ever regional champion, winning at 145 pounds. Dunasky won his first match by technical fall, then scored two major decision victories in the semi-final and final, improving his record to 31-2 and qualifying for the New Castle semi-state.
Dunasky’s success lifted the Golden Eagles to a ninth-place team finish with 21.5 points. Hamilton Heights finished 10th with 20.5 points and qualified two wrestlers to the semi-state: Isaiah Rodriguez placed third at 106 pounds and Colton Myers took fourth at 182 pounds.
