Carmel continued its win streak on Saturday, emerging victorious over Penn 44-40 at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
The Class 4A No. 7 Kingsmen led 7-6 after the first quarter, but the Greyhounds jumped ahead 23-19 by halftime. Kate Clarke scored eight points in that period.
Penn cut Carmel’s lead to 31-30 after three quarters. The game was close in the fourth period, but the Greyhounds were able to come out on top, with three-point plays by Bridget Dunn and Riley Pennington helping Carmel get the win.
The victory was the fifth in a row for the Greyhounds, who are now 8-6.
“We have just really preached to the girls to trust in the process and keep getting better every day,” said Carmel coach Erin Trimpe. “It’s frustrating when you have losses and we struggled at the beginning of the season like we did. And we just kept preaching to them to believe in what we’re doing. And I’m so proud of them the way that they’ve bought in to what we are doing and the results are showing.”
Clarke scored 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. All seven Carmel players that took to the court scored at least two points. Dunn collected seven rebounds and blocked two shots, while Clarke and Kiara Gill both pulled six rebounds.
The ‘Hounds travel to Center Grove on Saturday for a Metropolitan Conference game.
