City adding roundabouts, paths, wider Monon . . .
The City of Carmel will add eight more roundabouts, a handful of multi-use paths and a much wider Monon Greenway and Plaza in the heart of Midtown as the 2018 construction season kicks into high gear. The City’s Department of Engineering has released an updated 2018 schedule that details the numerous projects that are currently underway or scheduled to start this summer and fall.
The projects are part of the City’s aggressive approach to improve traffic flow, reduce accidents for motorists and boost safety for bicyclists and pedestrians throughout the City. Over the past two decades, the City’s strategy of adding roundabouts has substantially reduced the number of fatal and personal-injury accidents as well at the overall accident rate in the City.
The projects include ongoing work on the expanded Monon Greenway and Midtown Plaza, the Range Line Road improvement projects, several multi-purpose path projects and infrastructure improvements, along with new roundabouts at 96th Street & Hazel Dell Parkway, 96th Street & Priority Way, 96th Street & Delegates Row, 96th Street & Gray Road, 3rd Avenue SW & City Center Drive, Carmel Drive & Old Meridian Street, Main Street & Gray Road, Main Street & Guilford Road.
