The City of Carmel is installed another beautiful sculpture inside a roundabout this week, just in time for next week’s celebration of National Roundabouts Week. The sculpture, by Indiana artist Arlon Bayliss, is titled “Grace, Love and Joy” and is coming to life inside the roundabout at the intersection of North Pennsylvania and Old Meridian streets, just east of U.S. 31.
The 42-foot-high illuminated steel sculpture will feature three pink roses with gold and silver stems wrapped in a ribbon. It will also include a small surprise, hidden in plain sight, for viewers to enjoy discovering.
“Roses are beautiful, universally-understood symbols with many meanings, all of them positive,” said Bayliss. “Three roses mean ‘I love you’ and a pink rose stands for happiness, grace, gratitude and joy. My hope is that this sculpture not only beautifies the neighborhood, but also lifts the hearts of folks who visit, live and work there with its everlasting message of grace, love and joy.”
The city plans to formally celebrate the new sculpture at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18 with an event hosted by Encore Sotheby’s, whose new corporate headquarters is located on the north side of the roundabout, at 12411 N. Pennsylvania St.
