Another night, another victory over a No. 1-ranked team.
Carmel delivered another first loss of the season Thursday at the Eric Clark Activity Center, as the Greyhounds defeated Class 4A No. 1 Lawrence North 42-35. This is the second consecutive victory over a top-ranked team for Carmel, as it beat Fishers last Saturday.
The ‘Hounds sprinted out to a 16-7 lead after the first quarter, with Alex Couto scoring 10 points and Evan Harrell adding six. Carmel maintained a 22-15 lead at halftime. Lawrence North scored the first 10 points of the third quarter to go up 25-22, but an 8-0 spurt put the Greyhounds up 30-25 at the end of three. Quinn Murphy opened the fourth quarter with a 3 for Carmel, and the ‘Hounds stayed ahead the entire period to claim the victory.
Harrell finished with 13 points, while Couto scored 12; including a basket off a steal late in the game to keep the Greyhounds ahead by a solid margin. Couto and Harrell both had five rebounds, while Ryan Clevenger handed out five assists.
Carmel is 9-9 and plays next Friday (Feb. 9) at Hamilton Southeastern.
