The Indiana premiere of “Fanfare for Democracy” – a composition penned especially for the 59th Presidential Inauguration – will take place during the Carmel Symphony Orchestra’s performance at CarmelFest.
The free concert is set for 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 4 at the Gazebo, 3 Civic Square.
Orchestras representing all 50 states, plus Washington, D.C.’s National Symphony, have commissioned the anthem composed by Jim Stephenson of Lake Forest, Ill. “Fanfare for Democracy” first was performed by the United States Marine Band during the Inauguration of President Joseph Biden.
“Carmel Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to join with the Boston Pops, San Diego Symphony, Naples Philharmonic and other organizations from throughout the nation to present this inspirational music to our local audience,” CSO Artistic Director Janna Hymes said. “We have a wonderful, celebratory CarmelFest program planned, and ‘Fanfare’ is sure to be a highlight.”
CSO’s CarmelFest performance kicks off the orchestra’s diverse 2021-22 season of exceptional music, from classical to pops. Next up following CarmelFest is the CSO’s inaugural collaboration with Hamilton County Parks to present “Classical Mystery Tour” outdoors at Coxhall Gardens on Sept. 5. This tribute to the music of The Beatles, complete with Fab Four re-enactors backed by the majesty of symphony orchestra, has been hailed as “the world’s best Beatles show.”
