An exceptional season of music that runs the gamut from beloved classical compositions to energetic pops favorites – and spiced by a couple of surprises! – has been announced for 2021-22 by the Carmel Symphony Orchestra (CSO).
“We’ve looked forward to this moment for well over a year now, to when we’d be back to full force and full strength and able to invite fans both existing and new to ‘Experience the Exceptional,’” said CSO Artistic Director Janna Hymes. “I can’t begin to express how proud I am of every single person associated with this orchestra, from the board of directors to the front office staff to those fantastic musicians on stage.
“The CSO was one of a handful of orchestras worldwide that not only live streamed but also continued to perform live on stage during the pandemic,” she continued. “We sold out every seat we were permitted to sell, and are so grateful for the support we received during a challenging time.
“Now we are ready to move onward with a fantastic schedule of music that we think is sure to please just about everyone!”
CSO is a professional orchestra that is among the resident companies of the Palladium at the Center for the Performing Arts. The majority of its concerts are performed at the Palladium, but the orchestra will venture beyond those walls and out into the Central Indiana community for several performances during the upcoming season.
The kickoff to the new season comes on Sunday, July 4 at CarmelFest. CSO will entertain the throngs of Independence Day revelers with a free outdoor concert beginning at 8 p.m. at the Gazebo, 3 Civic Square.
The next performance, also outdoors at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5, represents the inaugural collaboration between CSO and Hamilton County Parks at the dazzling Coxhall Gardens, 11677 Towne Road. The two organizations have teamed up to present “Classical Mystery Tour,” the sensational tribute to the music of The Beatles backed by symphony orchestra. Classical Mystery Tour has been hailed by Broadway World as “the world’s best Beatles show with symphony orchestra”; the Los Angeles Times wrote that Classical Mystery Tour elicits “a high goose-bump quotient … (it’s) more than just an incredible simulation … the crowd stood and bellowed for more.”
“So excited about this performance!” Hymes said. “I mean, who doesn’t love the music of The Beatles? It’s universal, spans all ages, and when you combine those outstanding songs with the power and majesty of symphony orchestra, well, you have something really special – something more than your standard tribute concert.”
Following Classical Mystery Tour comes “Symphony Uncorked” – a duo of outdoor concerts at Martinsville’s Cedar Creek Winery at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12 and on Sunday, Oct. 3 at Daniel’s Vineyard in McCordsville. Time for the Daniel’s Vineyard performance will be announced soon.
These four outdoor performances set the stage for the debut of the season’s Masterworks and Pops concerts. See the schedule in the blue box above.
“It’s a dynamic, exceptional season and we cannot wait to welcome music lovers from throughout Central Indiana to our many and varied performances,” Hymes said. “We’re the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, but we make beautiful music for everyone in this entire area – and we cordially invite everyone to come and enjoy our concerts. We are a great, professional orchestra, and we would love to have even more people discover CSO during the upcoming season.”
