The Carmel swimming and diving teams swept the Metropolitan Conference meet, which took place this weekend at the Greyhounds’ aquatic center.
The Carmel girls won with a score of 564 points, followed by North Central 426, Center Grove 337, Pike 218, Lawrence North 211, Warren Central 137, Lawrence Central 102 and Ben Davis 87.
Event winners for the Greyhounds were: Berit Berglund, Margaret Love, Meredith Berglund and Colleen Duffy in the medley relay (1:47.71); Meghan Christman in the 200 freestyle (1:55.57); Love in the individual medley (1:40.10); Avery Williams in the 50 free (24.51); Alaina Heyde in diving (491.40 points); Meredith Berglund in the butterfly (57.83); Gretchen Lueking in the 100 free (53.65); Duffy, Meghan Christman, Madelyn Christman and Lueking in the 200 free relay (1:37.68); Berit Berglund in the backstroke (57.92); Vivian Krabel in the breaststroke (1:08.78) and Lueking, Meghan Christman, Berit Berglund and Williams in the 400 free relay (3:35.07).
Carmel’s boys team won with 525 points, followed by Center Grove 451, North Central 265, Lawrence North 251, Warren Central 227, Lawrence Central 158, Ben Davis 84 and Pike 82. The Greyhounds set three meet records: First the medley relay team of Wyatt Davis, Ryan Malicki, Griffin Hadley and Jake Mitchell, set a new mark of 1:32.78. Carmel’s 400 free relay team of Davis, Gus Rothrock, Griffin Hadley and Jake Mitchell finished the meet with a new record, clocking in at 3:06.68. Davis also set a new record in the backstroke of 50.24, with Hadley finishing second in 50.94, under his old record of 51.41 that he set last year.
Other Greyhounds winners were: Mitchell in the 200 free (1:40.10); Davis in the IM (1:52.16); JT Curcio in diving (422.05 points); Rothrock in the butterfly (51.45); Mitchell in the 500 free (4:35.91); Hadley, Rothrock, Brandon Edwards and Kayden Lancaster in the 200 free relay (1:27.37) and Malicki in the breaststroke (58.85).
