Carmel softball falls to Cathedral

The Carmel softball team dropped a 9-6 game to Cathedral Wednesday at Cherry Tree Softball Complex.

Both teams scored one run in the first inning; Mia Fleming singled in Jayden Kleiner with a right field hit for the Greyhounds’ run. Carmel then added one run in each of the next three innings.

Jayden Kleiner batted in Winni Owens with a single in the second inning, then Owens doubled in Megan Pike for a third-inning run. The Irish put up four runs in the top of the fourth inning; the ‘Hounds got one back in the bottom of the fourth. Kleiner got on base with a double and was sent home by Fleming’s center field hit.

Cathedral scored another four runs in the sixth inning for a 9-4 lead. Kleiner smacked a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, also scoring Lolah Pence.

Kleiner was 3-for-4, while Fleming had two hits.

Carmel is 5-14 and hosts Mooresville on Friday.
