The IHSAA girls swimming state preliminaries took place Friday evening at the IU Natatorium, and once again, Carmel has put itself in a championship position.
The Greyhounds qualified 25 swims into today’s state finals, with 22 going into the championship heat. The other three will swim in the consolation heat. Carmel has six top seeds, with Gretchen Lueking earning the top seed in the 200 and 100 freestyles. Berit Berglund is seeded first in the backstroke and the ‘Hounds also swept the top position in all three relays.
Fishers advanced 16 swims to the finals, with seven going to the championship heat and nine to the consolation heat. Lydia Reade earned the top seed in the breaststroke.
Hamilton Southeastern qualified eight swims into the finals, sending five to the championship heat and three to the consolation heat. Molly Pedersen (100 free) and Abigail Harter (backstroke) both earned fourth seeds for the Royals.
Noblesville sent four swims into the finals. The Millers’ Sammy Huff advanced to the championship heat of the breaststroke, where she is seeded third. Noblesville also had three swims qualify for the consolation heat.
Today’s state meet begins at 9 a.m. with the diving prelims and semi-finals, with the swimming and diving finals starting at 1 p.m. Hamilton County results for the prelims now follow.
Positions 1-8 qualify for championship heat, positions 9-16 qualify for consolation heat, positions 17 and 18 are alternates.
