Carmel school board candidates Brake, Brown & Sharp get AG Rokita’s endorsement

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita has announced his endorsement of the Brake, Brown, Sharp campaign for Carmel Clay School Board. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has introduced the Parents’ Bill of Rights, a document which “provide(s) parents a roadmap to understanding their rights and how the law interacts with their children’s education,” according to the OAG website.

“We the Parents are primarily responsible for what and how our children learn,” Rokita said. “It is not the government’s job to raise our children, even if it wants to do so. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that we understand our legal rights to effectively oversee and participate in the part of our children’s education that occurs outside the home, including in government schools.”

Rokita said he will support candidates who seek to uphold parents’ rights in education.

“Several candidates running for school board in Indiana’s local elections are focused on upholding parental rights in education,” Rokita said in his endorsement letter on Wednesday. “An involved parent is the single greatest gift in any child’s life. Understanding that parents are the very first educators in our children’s lives, and that they are the source of the unique values and morals of the family, I stand beside the candidates that will uphold these truths and support the rights outlined under Indiana laws.”

Rokita continued, “I am choosing to endorse the Brake, Brown, and Sharp campaign for Carmel Clay School Board. It is my hope that the voters of Carmel strongly consider voting to elect these great candidates who will support students, teachers, protect parents’ rights, and complete transparency in education.”

The Brake, Brown, and Sharp campaign (BBS) came together around a common vision of restoring academic excellence and parents’ rights in Carmel Clay Schools. They say their focus will be on the policies necessary to achieve this critical academic goal.
