Sensory In Indy, a new initiative dedicated to enhancing and promoting sensory-friendly experiences throughout central Indiana, has announced its official launch. The organization aims to create an inclusive community where individuals with sensory sensitivities can enjoy a variety of activities and events in a comfortable and accommodating environment.
To celebrate its launch, Sensory In Indy will hold a kickoff event from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 at We Rock the Spectrum Kid’s Gym – Carmel, located at 13644 N. Meridian St. This event marks the beginning of Autism Acceptance Month and offers an opportunity for families, caregivers, and community members to come together and learn more about the sensory-friendly resources available in the area.
The kickoff party will feature a range of activities designed to engage attendees of all ages and abilities, including:
- Open play sessions in the gym equipped with specialized sensory equipment
- Interactive art and music stations
- Resource booths from local organizations offering sensory-friendly programs
- Light refreshments and snacks
“Our mission is to foster an inclusive environment where everyone can participate in the rich cultural and recreational offerings of the Central Indiana area,” said Jessica Willits, Executive Director of Neurodiversity Connection, the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization who runs Sensory In Indy. “We are thrilled to launch this initiative and look forward to collaborating with local venues and organizations to expand sensory-friendly opportunities for all.”
Sensory In Indy plans to partner with various local attractions, museums, theaters, and recreational facilities to increase the availability of sensory-friendly events and accommodations. By providing resources, training, and support, the organization aims to make central Indiana a more inclusive city for individuals with sensory processing differences.
