After an interview with their board and a vote by their membership, Adam Aasen, a first-time candidate for elected office, has been endorsed by the Carmel Professional Firefighters Union Local 4444 for his Carmel City Council campaign. Aasen is running as a Republican candidate to represent southeast Carmel on the City Council. The primary election is May 7.

Aasen said he’s honored by the endorsement. Supporting police and fire is one of his campaign priorities and he understands the role they play in making our community great.

“My first job out of college was actually as a police and fire reporter for a major metropolitan daily newspaper,” Aasen said. “Nearly every night I went out to homicide callouts, traffic accidents, house fires, shootings and more. I covered trials and arson cases. I learned a lot. So very early on, I gained an appreciation for the role that first responders play in making our community great.”

Aasen has also developed a connection to Carmel police and firefighters through his small business, Donatello’s Italian Restaurant. Aasen also spent four years writing for Current in Carmel newspaper, so he understands the issues surrounding the city, including those surrounding the police and fire departments.

Aasen said he’d like to continue seeing city officials work to proactively tackle the opioid epidemic and design roads to minimize serious vehicle accidents. He praised what’s currently going on in the city, including the work done by the incumbent City Council.

“I believe our current City Council strongly supports our police and fire departments and I hope to have the opportunity to work alongside them and learn ways we can continue to keep Carmel one of the best places to live,” Aasen said.
