The Carmel Police Department (CPD) has announced the death of K9 Axl, who developed a sudden illness last week and passed away on Friday, June 16.

K9 Axl started his career with CPD in 2017 and initially worked alongside Officer Katy Malloy. K9 Axl and Officer Malloy worked together for approximately two years before she was promoted to the rank of sergeant. Officer Jamie Reynolds then became K9 Axl’s new handler, and they remained partners for the remainder of his career.

Officer Reynolds, Sgt. Malloy, their families, and CPD are deeply saddened at the loss of such a well-loved and devoted member of the city’s police family. K9 Axl was a hard-working partner who selflessly served the citizens of Carmel and Hamilton County. He was responsible for locating large quantities of illegal narcotics and numerous articles of evidence and contraband during his career.

He will be greatly missed.
